GROS BOUCH  –  ISSUE #0
ABOUT

I will  briefly explore how  neo-liberalism – the idea that self-efficiency would be the catalyst for harmony  and true embodiment. However  Neo-Lib  self-optimization in the digital age  is linked to the increased efforts to metaphysically connect with environment, nature and wildlife.

In the age of expansion, of Artificial Intelligence ,

 of pervasion technology.

What happens to our non-satient beings

Non-thinking things

Do they get the rights

to not partake in ‘optimizing culture’

why is it we accept the expansion at the cost of ecological resonance ?

The anthropocene is kinda entitled

TO OUR  freewill!

How is it that the climate catastrophe is a collective effort, Yet when scientists offer solutions that address the cause & not the just symptoms of our collective ecological issues,

Those with an ability to change it, trend to render those  solutions dependent upon, and voices limited to policy, politics or  self-funded individual organisations? In the case of western techno expansion & for the sake of optimizing the whole of  humanity if we  aren’t ( fellow human reading this )  allowed to say no?  Wtf happens to everything else that doesn’t come without a human voice, economic or cultural value ?

How can young people  fight for a more ecological world?

When we aren’t recognised

Little attention is given to the voices of generations born in the ‘Age of information’ and their experiences with  difficulty in  navigating interpersonal relationships are attributed as a personal failing,  rather than potential indicator of larger mass  dissatisfaction with the current  structures  that enable social fragmentation df. Studies show that  in the western hemisphere the onset of a new social approach correlates with rising neuroticism  and a broader cultural shift towards individualism (REF TECT, European science foundation, 2008 & ( Fukuyama,1999)).

An economic nature of selfhood

while paradoxically demanding connection

Devices such as phones or laptops are oriented to function  towards meeting the needs of the owner, and the internet  connects them to people all over the world  (REF Alordi, 2022 )  seen in the early 2010s which marked a time in history when apps and forums became a significant aspect of daily life.  And  despite having unprecedented tools for connection, many experience greater interpersonal insecurity, competition anxiety, and digitally commodify  themselves in the process  for those social bond (REF Illouz, 2012)

But  fundamental to  fostering  connection to oneself & others is to have  proximity to those things… duh… #gotouchgrass much but, the difficulty is that sure, Radical macro   shifts are often largely emphasized to indicate a change or break in the social fabric, yet post 2020 the milieu that actors interact within are becoming increasingly privatized which can be direly liked to the ‘neo-liberalism’ of it all (REF Polanyi, 2001)

And the reason I would like to reframe the way we see ecological guilt  through the lenses of a generational divide is because while many young people nowadays have access to resources.

What happened to the actual individual they all talk about?

We (Gen z at least) understand that our tech infrastructures and privileges in the west come at the cost of the very thing that hosts all of life – nature, water, air, and land. And while the direct consequences of climate change have not taken somatic effect in their lives, many (ahem ahem boomers) have attempted and continue to minimize its long-term effects on both human and non human life. And while I study sociology the vast amount of information available regarding the effects of our technological infrastructure is worth noting; simultaneously the actions taken are limited and are constructed as a money & resources issue from those who have the most money and power to change infrastructures. But no , it’s my avocado toast & annual trip back home that’s destroying the planet.

Firstly is acknowledgement: Don’t  denying  it / not isolating your pain / sadness or apathy.  Not  blaming ‘ capitalism’ for all, some but not all of  your foes & Voes ( although it is of much to blame ngl ). And once you journal a bit more, do some self reflection and get at the core of if it’s an internal ting or an external thing.

Secondly, understand limitations, you cannot fix the whole world, and anger gets clouded, so I would say honestly, meditate, put five minutes on ur phone and breath.  because if for no other reason, do it because it makes the 1% mad when you spend your time ‘unproductively’.  IMO, do more unproductive & inefficient things, like meditating, yoga, eating food really really really slow and taking a long walk by ur closest park and yes actually sit on the grass if u can because that will if nothing else than send serotonin to your brain, it will  upset the boomers  who need us online 24/7 to entertain them.   And lastly before I go into more literature. Teach your phone that your time is yours and not its. Get it?

Like anything we bring into our lives Boundaries, Boundaries and yes boundaries.  That includes the technological insect that follows you around: To tell you where to be, how to do things, what you’re missing,  how to act and when to be available!

Thirdly, reframe your phone or any online  activity  from being a necessity to a bloody insect. That sure you love and is fun but nevertheless a really needy insect that unless its ur job (unfortunately like mine) doesn’t need to be fed all the time tbh. Now that you’ve reframed it as an insect, it becomes a little easier to put that baby down no?  ( i will expand upon these tools with literature in my final release but for now try it and if u hate it i dunno… i have boundaries sooo…  not my circus lol )

And how can we do it anyways

Regardless of boomers approval?

I offer a heuristic: which I think more scholars & writers should be doing:

In the age of digitization, Globalization and rapid acceleration…social work & theorizing is not just talking shit intellectually but situating themselves in community, and talking.  Creating useful goods, trading, developing  experiences even when uncomfortable. Bringing Voicing to our embodied, rituals & attunement (REF Morton – on  Attunement)  knowledge & dreams to action,  practicing what they preach . But even then we must realize that it starts small, sure, but I’ve got a Gros bouch and studied environmental sociology for way too many years to,  NOT offer my insight towards detangling the complexities that come with modernization, colonialism and well, put simply  human greed.

& I believe that even with globalization we should focus on enriching & strengthening our Local communities. In the wise words of Hartmut Rosa – that a successful relationship with the world is not about the abundance of resources but rather being connected and open to others and the world, : “one’s relation to oneself cannot be separated from one’s relation to the world. Subjects thus do not stand opposite the world, but rather find themselves always already in a world with which they are interconnected and interwoven,” ( Rosa p.52) ( for the sociology nerds: his metaphysical normativity views are  kinda like a environmental positivist who also acknowledges subjectivity phenologically)

Developing Resilient Resonance in Digital Entropy 4 Gen Z

As a scholar and artist I can’t save the world,  but I can hopefully contribute to my peers’ wellbeing by expressing and recognising their perspectives. Art connects us further than technology ever has. Historically evolving our collective wellbeing through shared stories, rituals and the  sacredness of our shared earth. Which belongs to everyone. From the deer that crosses the highway,  to the snail that journeys across the train  tracks, to the dandelion that grows above concrete  roads over and over again. Nature shows us its resilience even in the face of the human anthropocene.

Addressing  Ethical Elephant In the View

Through ethical considerations I have been able to acknowledge and weaknesses the strength of my artistic methods, resources and attitudes, therefore by exhibiting works and receiving feedback from my community- ethics are important because a – “Ethical practices suggest creation is an ongoing process of learning and refinement therefore through iteration the artist learns from the feedback or new information. Being culturally sensitive”  (REF – 3.1 Art & Activism”- fo.h portfolio text 2026 )

My Artistic Practice – Fo.h

My practice has taken the form of is through art, activism , organizing events , and situating myself in discourse. Reading ancient books (by ancient i mean written pre – 1990s) & planting some cactus in my mugs & quirky shit like that. and lastly, don’t do it alone.

Genuinely we are social creatures, and you can find you people if you stop acting nonchalant about caring bro . care , it’s really really cool to care. It’s good to be sincere about issues that affect us all … US ALL. We have power too and don’t let them forget that. (see upcoming Event W.L.P & Rosa Catalogue )  reading & writing & artistically ranting well  that is just my special interest. &  my way of relating to my planet. The problematizing section aims to encourage Gen Z to investigate sure but  have some tea and sip it slowly, listen to a full album, from start to finish

My current favs

 Olbe reed -Lindenav!

Thundercats – Distracted

 Boko yout – Gusto – .

Kendrik Lamar –   Good kid mad city

Lady Gaga – Artpop

& classical music is always a banger ngl  ).

My point is to revel & revolt  by going into your pleasure,  you senses your aliveness &  attune to you then you can attune to nature; or the other way around IDC just try it pragmatically.
